"Frozen" Composers on Internationalizing Music; Idina Menzel Profiled by NY Times, Idina Menzel music

Reblogged from toonzone.net

The Hollywood Reporter has spoken with Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, composers for Disney’s Frozen, about the challenges of internationalizing the score for the film. The pair discuss working with Disney Character Voices International senior vp creative Rick Dempsey, noting specific linguistic usages that were avoided to make translation easier, and details other instances where translation was problematic or produced unexpected results. The songwriting pair have also worked with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker on The Book of Mormon, noting that Parker & Stone give their translators carte blanche to do what they want to South Park when translating.
